disaster. Emergency responders could not always keep pace with the
influx of rescue requests as residents from neighborhoods across the
city watched the waters rise higher and higher.
Sunday
On Sunday night, the rescue calls came mainly from areas along Brays Bayou,
which runs through neighborhoods near Rice University and the Texas
Medical Center. Calls also began to come in from a small subdivision at
the edge of East Houston called Verde Forest, along Greens Bayou.

Overnight, the calls from northeast Houston increased, and new calls were being heard along Cypress Creek in the north.
Monday
On Monday, rescue requests began to come from the west end of Barker Reservoir, indicating that the dry lake bed used to absorb floodwaters from the upper Buffalo Bayou was filling. And flood waters in the northeast were spreading rapidly.
4:17 a.m. These people are outside and flooded out of the home and cannot access the roof. Both are elderly.
5:36 a.m. He’s on bottled oxygen now, and running out. Nausea from lack of oxygen has already started.
7:32 a.m. Need help getting out
of here! Don’t think it will get any better! I have a 6 week old and a 1
year old! Running out of food and water!! On the second floor but water
is rising.
By the afternoon, things were worse everywhere. There were new calls for help from below the spillways of the Addicks and Barker
reservoirs, and dozens more on Cypress Creek. At this point, the calls
from the northeast were coming from far outside areas that have been
officially designated as flood-prone.

Tuesday
It was apparent that the area northeast of the
city was one of the hardest hit. Middle-class subdivisions like the
Village of Kings Lakes, Beaumont Place, Parkway and Stonefield Terrace

5:20 p.m. We are on our second story first floor flooded We are both 70 years old
10:56 p.m. 3 adults and 3 children trapped; some might be drowning. Water is knee deep!
Wednesday
By Wednesday morning, as the rains eased in
Houston and the rivers began to recede, the storm lingered offshore,
picking up more moisture to dump on the old oil towns of Beaumont and
Port Arthur to the east. After midnight, as it turned toward shore
again, the rescue calls started there.
1:41 a.m. One Pregnant Mother and 4 year old with Asthma and his machine is damaged in the water.
1:56 a.m. It’s my sister and
her family I’m not sure of the severity but she’s panicking water is
raising in her home and she has an infant please help
2:07 a.m. Mom 88 has Alzheimer cannot walk. 62 year old disabled with extreme back condition. Both have medical needs.
