An obvious reference to the preamble of the U.S. Constitution, her Slow Factory choker read, "We the People."
In the wake of the events in Charlottesville
this month, the message, however small it seems in necklace-form, is
loud and clear: Banding together is better than tearing apart with
bigoted ideologies. The choice to wear the piece also showed support for
the ACLU, as 10 percent of proceeds from the $75 necklace are donated
to the organization.
"I made the necklace shortly after [President Trump's travel ban]
was announced, as my immigration lawyer advised me not to travel,"
Celine Semaan, the designer of the jewelry, and a Lebanese immigrant,
told Glamour.com.
Since Gomez was seen in the accessory, Semaan says, "It [has been]
crazy — we got lots of orders, which means lots of donations to the
ACLU. ... When we cast a wider net, we really impact more people and
create a positive change."
