"We’ll hold oil coys accountable for 20 years’ activities", Reps assure Nigerians

Raphael Igbokwe gave the assurance at a public hearing in Abuja on Monday.
Oil companies operating in the country will be made to account for their activities in the last 20 years, lawmakers have said.

Rep. Raphael Igbokwe (Imo-PDP), Chairman, House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Review of the Pump Price of Petrol, gave the assurance at a public hearing in Abuja on Monday.
“I want to assure Nigerians that this committee will break the jinx concerning those who believe that they are above the law and they have all the contacts in the world that will make them not to report to Nigerians on the activities of their companies, which have been at the centre of managing crude, the collective resources of this country in the last 20 years.’’ He said.
While delivering a report on his company’s activities, Mr Alex Cole, the Managing Director of Sahara Tarde, said the company was committed to upholding the good reputation of Nigeria.
According to Cole, the indigenous company, which is an importer of petrol, has been in existence for 20 years and has offices in Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Geneva, Singapore, and Dubai.
He said promoting the image of Nigeria at the international stage, remained a priority for the company.
Cole also noted that there were reconciliation meetings with the NNPC and that there were available documents that accounted for the volume of petrol it imported to the country.
